Shopify + Meta Ads Analytics: How to Read Both Sources Together
Meta explains performance inside Meta's measurement system; Shopify records store activity. The useful workflow connects them without relabeling one as the other.
Keep Meta attribution and Shopify commerce on separate labels.
Meta can report purchase conversions, conversion value, ROAS, delivery, and creative metrics for the ad account it measures. Shopify records orders, products, refunds, revenue, and inventory in the store. Differences between the systems are normal because attribution windows, identity signals, modeled conversions, and timing differ.
A combined analytics product should make comparison easier without turning Meta-attributed revenue into a renamed Shopify revenue field. The merchant should always be able to identify the source behind a number.
Respect the authorized ad account all the way down the hierarchy.
A user may have access to several Meta ad accounts. Selecting an account should narrow the data the backend reads, the cache key, the campaigns returned, the product mappings considered, and the report generated. A browser-supplied account identifier is not enough authorization by itself.
That account boundary matters even more when multiple brands or stores are accessible to the same user. Store and advertising-account isolation should be enforced server-side before analytics are calculated.
- Authorized account selection.
- Account-scoped campaign and ad reads.
- Account-scoped caches and reports.
- Store-aware product mappings.
Use Product × Ads and creative analysis to explain movement.
If Meta performance changes, drill into campaigns, ad sets, ads, and creatives, then inspect the Shopify products linked by defensible mappings. That reveals whether the result is broad, concentrated in one asset, driven by one product, or constrained by inventory.
This is where a combined model becomes more useful than copying Ads Manager into a different interface: the analysis can connect paid delivery to the business-side product and operational context.
FAQ
Questions this guide should answer
Why do Meta Ads and Shopify report different purchase revenue?
Meta attributes purchases under its measurement rules; Shopify records store transactions. Attribution windows, identity, modeled conversions, refunds, time zones, and order timing can all produce differences.
Should I trust Shopify or Meta for ROAS?
Define the question first. Meta ROAS is useful for Meta's attributed performance; a store-revenue-to-spend ratio answers a broader business-efficiency question. Do not silently treat them as the same metric.
Can one Metrico user connect multiple Meta ad accounts?
The data model can represent multiple advertising accounts, but every analysis should remain scoped to an account the merchant is authorized to use.
